Call me crazy but I don’t think AI can do this job I call “high end match making”
In finance, the extinction of floor brokers is well known, having been replaced by electronic trading. Now people wonder if AI could or will replace analysts, traders, even portfolio managers? The overwhelming conclusion: “Maybe. Maybe not.” I see the worry for fundraisers envisioning a technology platform that matches GPs with LPs but do not believe the industry will get there.
Let’s Take It Back Before We Predict The Future . . .
When I started my career, we didn’t really have email. We didn’t really have internet search capabilities. We used landlines, beepers and fax machines, mmmm hmmmm - Palm Pilots, not even Blackberries at the start. 10-Ks printed on paper, not PDFs. People mattered. If you went to an Ivy League school, you knew more of the “right” people and had a “real” rolodex. One banker boss from Princeton actually had four extra large spinning ones on his desk with yellowing business cards stapled to each index card, all organized alphabetically. We had no social media, no LinkedIn.
